Corner of the Sky - DNW Final Project

At the beginning of our 10 week long Groundwork class, my classmates & I were challenged to learn a new song within 24 hours & put it on tape. 10 weeks later, we were challenged to be our own directors and bring our songs to life outside of its original intent. I picked Pippin’s Corner of the Sky—and quite honestly, I’ve fallen in love with this naive dreamer and his story. My vision for this project was to bring out Pippin’s inner world. When I envisioned Pippin singing this song, I imagined him running, mind racing in search of the glorious unknown—chasing light, if you will. So I ran around NYC in the dark, chasing the city’s sparkle along the way. I wanted to give ode in some ways to Pippin’s full arc because the ending of this show is so special to me. I hope you’ll see the magic; and maybe by the end, like Pippin, find that what you seek “always was here, it never was there”. I think we’re all like Pippin at some point in our lives. The grass always appears to be greener on the other side, and perhaps if you’re like me, there’s been a time when you’ve believed deep down that if you can just obtain that ONE thing...you will feel full, happy and content. What we often find though is that when we get “it”, it’s never enough and we only begin our search once more for the next “thing”. We want extraordinary. But what if the extraordinary we seek is found in the everyday ordinary? What if what fills us is right in front of us, equally beautiful, and worth savoring every. single. second? In my case, I found that in the Zoom room over the last 6 months among strangers turned framily. **Special THANK YOUS to Bella and Aleah for quite literally chasing me around NYC at night, holding my coat, hitting play on my music, scouring the sidewalks of Times Square when I lost my AirPods case while sprinting, providing pep talks, and being my 1st & 2nd camera women/music supervisors. I could NOT have done this without you, your patience, humor, and generosity of your time.
